MANILA, Philippines – A worker was killed while four others were injured when a tornado struck a construction site at the sanitary landfill in Rodriguez, Rizal last Sunday.

Senior Superintendent Rolando Anduyan, Rizal provincial director, said Jonathan Bisinga died on the way to the H. Vill Hospital after he hit his head on steel bars on the construction site.

The injured victims were Dennis Bansalan, Roberto Lanasan, Ronald Ampan, and Bryan Rapales, who sustained body injuries.

Anduyan said the five victims are workers of a construction site at a sanitary landfill located along Sitio Lukutang Maliit in Barangay San Isidro, Rodriguez town.

The victims were working atop the construction site at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday when a tornado hit them and threw the victims some five meters away.

Police said the tornado lifted Bisinga in the air for several seconds and the victim later fell and hit his head on the steel trusses that laid on the ground.

Anduyan ordered an investigation to determine whether the contractor of the building could be held liable for the accident. –Non Alquitran, The Philippine Star
