Batangas, Philippines – Three construction workers were killed while two others were wounded in a landslide at the boundary of Laurel, Batangas and Alfonso, Cavite yesterday afternoon, police said.

The fatalities were identified as Carlo Tenorio, Ammiel Montalbo and Rodel Tibang, while the wounded were Alfredo Bautista and Waldy Montiero.

Senior Superintendent Rosauro Acio, Batangas police director said, the five workers were doing rip-rap works on the slope of the mountain in Barangay Dayap Itaas in Laurel town when the soil and boulders rolled down at about 3:30 p.m.

The victims were retrieved by fellow workers who rushed them to the hospital.

Acio said continuous rains in the area could have triggered the landslide. –Arnell Ozaeta (The Philippine Star)
