14,000 jobs up for grabs in Canada

MANILA – Thousands of jobs are waiting for Filipino workers in Canada. Among the jobs up for grabs are for engineers, architects, teachers, and healthcare professionals.

Fashion techonology graduate Nel Garcia has been preparing all the necessary documents while looking for job openings overseas.

“Gusto ko London o Canada kasi mas mataas kita doon. Kasi mas mahirap maghanap ng trabaho dito,” said Garcia.

Filipinos like Garcia can now land a job in Canada as Saskatchewan has opened 14,000 job opportunities in the province.

“Mga accounting clerks, cashiers, lahat ng klase ng mga engineers, lahat ng klase ng mga arkitekto, lahat ng klase ng information technology-skilled professionals, sa health doctors, nurses, dentists,” said Nicon Fameronag of the Department of Labor and Employment.

Applicants can go to saskjobs.ca to view the entire lists of occupations open for hiring.

DOLE said the job opportunities are not only for Filipinos because it is also open to all other workers of different nationalities.

But Fameronag said that Filipino workers are mostly preferred by Canadian employers.

“Mas preferred na preferred na sila na magtrabaho sa Canada at welcome na welcome sila sapagkat kilala na ng mga Canadians ang pagu-ugali, kakayanan at kultura ng mga Pilipino pagdating sa pagtatrabaho,” said Fameronag.

The DOLE said accredited agencies will be tasked to screen applicants for the jobs.

The DOLE reiterated its warning to applicants to not fall prey to illegal recruiters. Instead, they should directly get in touch with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) at telephone numbers 722-1144 and 722-1155.

Earlier this month, DOLE signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Saskatchewan for the protection of Filipino workers and to implement streamlined, efficient and ethical recruitment practices in human resource between the Philippines and the Canadian province. Report from Abner Mercado, ABS-CBN News
