MANILA, Philippines – Managers working in the oil and gas industry are the highest paid employees in the country, according to JobStreet.com’s annual salary report.
Managers in the oil and gas industry receive an average monthly salary of P74,297.
On the recruitment firm’s website, one of the job openings for a project manager of an oil and gas company posted on Wednesday is offering salary between P45,000 and P60,000.
Among the tasks of a project manager include managing and leading an engineering team. The firm is looking to hire someone with a minimum experience of 15 years.
Managers in the utilities industry are the second highest paid with an average salary of P74,067.
Coming in third are managers in the industrial and machinery industry with an average salary of P69,063.
Rounding up the top 10 of highest paid managers in the country are those from IT Software (P59,678); BioTechnology/Pharmaceutical (P57,934); Business Process Outsourcing or BPO (P57,688); Transportation/Logistics (P51,685); Manufacturing (P48,784); Insurance (P48,758); and Fast Moving Consumer Goods or FMCG (P48,427).
Eileen Camarillo-Go, marketing communications manager at JobStreet.com, said the online recruitment firm’s salary report was based on the industry and not the specialization, which was the basis of last year’s report.
“Last year, what we did was we got it per specialization, meaning who are the top paid specializations in the country? Let’s say, you are an accountant, where do you fall in the spectrum of things, and then we categorized it further into position levels,” she told ABS-CBNnews.com on Wednesday.
Go said the report was based on the industry to help job seekers and employees gauge if they are being paid higher salaries compared to other industries.
“This year, because we want to inform our job seekers about what kind of industries they should get into, regardless of their specialization, which industries are highest paying, this is what we did: we based it on per industry,” she said.
For supervisors, or those with experience of more than 5 years, the highest paid ones are from the Utilities industry with an average salary of P50,411.
Go said these include those working for power distribution companies and water concessionaires.
Supervisors at non-government organizations (NGO) are the second highest paid with an average salary of P43,165 while IT software supervisors came in third with P34,679.
Supervisors in the BPO industry are being paid an average of P33,691, the report said.
Completing the top 10 list of highest paid supervisors are those in FMCG (P30,751); Telecoms (P29,041); Banking and Finance (P28,779); Advertising (P28,238); Oil and Gas (P27,055); and Hotel (P26,952).
Go noted that the BPO, IT Software and IT Hardware industries are interrelated because some multinational companies engaged in outsourcing may choose to classify themselves as part of IT Software or Hardware, depending on their core business.
For junior executives, or employees with 1 to 4 years experience, those working in NGOs are the highest paid, according to the report.
NGO employees are being paid an average of P25,697 a month, earning more than those in Utilities (P24,400); IT Software (P23,671); and BPO (P21,590).
“It’s not surprising when you think about it because in the end, we realized that [NGOs] are the people who can afford to pay good talent. So it’s not surprising, because they’re international, they want the best talent, and they’re based here,” Go explained.
Go added that the high demand in NGOs following recent calamities in the country may have contributed to the high salaries being offered.
JobStreet.com’s list of jobs with better salaries was determined through the identification of the average salary of all industries per position level, based on actual salaries posted by employees on JobStreet.com.ph from September 1 to November 30, 2013.
During this period, Central Visayas was hit with a magnitude 7.2 earthquake and super typhoon “Yolanda.”
Other industries making the list of highest paid junior executives include IT Hardware (P20,721); FMCG (P20,131); Oil and Gas (P19,848); Banking and Finance (P19,135); Mining (P18,893); and Media (P18,853).
Jobstreet.com marketing director Yoda Buyco, meanwhile, noted that while the managers, supervisors, and junior executives in the BPO industry are not the highest paid, BPO firms’ competitive salaries “has pushed up the salary levels” of other industries.
JobStreet.com said basic salaries used did not include other forms of compensation such as leave credits, medical benefits, insurance, and incentives.
