6 crewmen hurt in cargo ship blast in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Six crewmembers of a cargo ship suffered second and third degree burns after a minor explosion hit the vessel while docked at the Bredco port here yesterday.

Those injured were identified as Ronilo Cabalcar, Deo Norico, Froulin Sembrano, Pedrito Mahinay, Inocencio Sarbido, and Artemio Rosales, who all suffered burns on different of their bodies.

There were rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here, according to Bombo Radyo.

Initial investigation showed that the blast took place at the engine room of SF Adventure, a cargo vessel carrying construction materials, said Chief Inspector Bartolome Beliran, city fire marshal.

The six victims were reportedly having a welding operation in the engine room when the explosion took place, Beliran said. –Danny Dangcalan (The Philippine Star)
