QC work site accident leaves 3 dead, 1 hurt

MANILA, Philippines—Three construction laborers were killed while one more was hurt when they fell from the fourth floor of the building they were working on in Novaliches, Quezon City, on Wednesday.

Noel Doot, 33; Emmanuel Cruza, 32; and Mark Truces, 25, died in the hospital due to severe head injuries hours after the incident at the Lipton Building in Greenville Subdivision, Barangay (village) Sauyo.

A fourth worker, Bejan Sapungan, 29, remains confined at Pacific Global Medical Center.

Case investigator PO2 Anthony Tejerero said the incident happened at 11:41 a.m. on Wednesday while the victims were on a scaffolding and painting the fourth floor of the newly constructed building.

Another laborer, Bernie Badayos, said he was working nearby when he heard a loud thud. When he looked for the source of the sound, he saw the victims lying bloodied on the ground.

Parts of the steel scaffolding that they had been standing on were also on the ground, he added.

The victims were taken to different hospitals where they died later in the day due to severe head injuries.

Doot died at 3:40 p.m. in Pacific Global Medical Center while Cruza expired at 4:15 p.m. in East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC). Truces passed away at 11:35 p.m., also in EAMC
