MANILA – Search and retrieval operation continue for a miner who was trapped and killed after a mining tunnel caved in Friday in Sitio Matidao, Barangay Little Baguio, Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Police Officer 3 Jay-R Canillo Vacaro, investigator of the Imelda Municipal Police Station, said the body of Jessie Moncada was still being searched.

“The incident happened at around 4 p.m. on April 11 particularly inside the small scale coal mine owned by Vicente Tamac. The victim was trapped, and died inside the tunnel,” Vacaro said.

He said Moncada together with three companions was about to come out from the tunnel for a break from boarding the main line made of timber logs when the soil inside the tunnel suddenly collapsed.

“The debris fell on Moncada, who was trailing the three. His companions tried to rescue him but turned futile because his body was covered with soil and fallen timber. Retrieval operation is still being conducted as of this time,” Vacaro said. –Jaime Sinapit, InterAksyon.com
