Manila, May 30 (IANS) — Eight female workers were killed and nine injured Friday in the Philippines when a fire broke out in a warehouse, an official said.

The women were sleeping inside a padlocked room of the warehouse in Pasay city, when the fire started at 12.40 a.m. The eight female workers died of suffocation, Xinhua reported.

The nine workers survived because they were able to escape through a narrow hole and jumped over a fence, the official said.
