The University of the Philippines remained the best in the country, based on the 2014 QS University Rankings for Asia.

The annual list, which highlights the top 300 universities in Asia, had UP at 63, four places up from 2013.

Ateneo De Manila University slumped slightly, going from 109 to 115, while UST improved from 150 to 141.

De La Salle University remained in the 151-160 band, while Ateneo de Davao made an appearance in the 251-300 range.

The QS University Rankings cite academic reputation (from global survey), employer reputation (from global survey), faculty-student ratio, citations per paper and papers per faculty (from SciVerse Scopus), proportion of international faculty, proportion of international students, proportion of inbound exchange students, and proportion of outbound exchange students as factors that are taken into consideration for the rankings.

At the top of the list is the National University of Singapore, followed by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, the University of Hong Kong, Seoul National University and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. —Adrian Dy/KG, GMA News
