2 dead as metal beams fall on canteen

MANILA, Philippines – Two persons were killed when a metal beam fell on a canteen at a construction site in San Juan City yesterday.

Canteen workers Jesus Ignacio and Mica Miranda died on the scene.

The victims were in the canteen set up by ARDI Construction at the construction site of the Unimart building when three metal beams being lifted by a tower crane slipped from the equipment’s hold at around 1:30 p.m., San Juan police chief Senior Superintendent Joselito Daniel said.

Inspector Joseph Logronio of the Eastern Police District’s Scene of the Crime Operatives office was tasked to process the crime scene.

Police Officer 3 Ryan Pariñas said they are still trying to determine the culpability of the construction firm for the incident. –Non Alquitran (The Philippine Star)
