MANILA, Philippines–They were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Two people were killed after they were hit by falling steel beams as they were inside a mess hall in a construction site in San Juan City on Monday.

Senior Supt. Joselito Daniel, the city’s chief of police, identified the victims as Jesus Ignacio, a laborer; and Mica Miranda, a canteen employee.
The three steel beams, Daniel said, fell on the victims at 1:30 p.m. after they fell off a crane that was bringing them up to the seventh floor of a building under construction in the Unimart parking area in Greenhills Shopping Center, Daniel said.

The beams struck both on the head, killing them on the spot. He could not say whether charges would be filed as of yet as the incident, according to him, was still under investigation.–Kristine Felisse Mangunay, Philippine Daily Inquirer
