A 58-year-old cargo checker at the Manila North Harbor Port in Tondo, Manila died after he was squashed by two empty truck chassis Sunday.

Police said the incident happened around 10:20 p.m. at Slip 3, Pier 2.

SPO1 Charles John Duran disclosed that the victim, Loreto Mintalar, was standing at the back of a trailer truck driven by Carmelito Palomares, 43, who was about to transport a container van loaded with chassis into a cargo ship.

Palomares backed up in order to load another container when he accidentally bumped the other truck chassis and hit the victim.

Elbino Bateller Jr., 38, also a checker, saw the incident and immediately shouted “May naipit!”

Palomares voluntarily surrendered to Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) and was turned over to the police. (Rachel Joyce E. Burce)
