A forklift driver voluntarily surrendered to the police after he accidentally killed a banana stevedore who was pinned by the container he was unloading Saturday in North Harbor, Tondo, Manila.

Police identified the suspect as Sonny de Pedro, 43, of San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan.

Initial investigation by PO3 Bernardo Cayabyab from the Manila Police District Homicide Section revealed that the incident happened at around 11:15 p.m. at the back of Sarah Canteen in Slip 9, Pier 8, North Harbor.

Cayabyab said the victim, Emterio Beto, 20, of Balut, Tondo, was buying a bottle of mineral water at the back of the canteen when the suspect failed to see his presence and unloaded the steel container from the forklift, pinning the victim to death.
