CARAGA: HIV-AIDS cases rise

BUTUAN CITY – Officials of the Department of Health (DoH) here are alarmed over the rising cases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) in Caraga region.

“We’re alarmed over the increasing trends,” stressed DoH 13 director Dr. Jose R. Llacuna druing a press conference in a Butuan City’s hotel here on Wednesday.

“Impending epidemic is shaping up,” the region’s top health official said. In a data presented to media, 14 deaths were already recorded while 209 persons are afflicted with the dreaded disease.

Last year, 42 HIV-AIDS cases were recorded while 34 new cases have been registered since early this year up to May 2015, the DoH 13 record said. (Mike U. Crismundo)
