ITOGON, Benguet – A miner died of suffocation after he was trapped in a tunnel in this town on Saturday.

Cesar Agustin Paler of Nueva Ecija was about to get out of the tunnel along with his companion Oliver Bunoten when he decided to return to get some ore samples.

Bunoten said he decided to follow Paler to the tunnel when he failed to show up after several minutes.

He said he found Paler lying unconscious, prompting him to call for help from their fellow miners.

Paler died while being taken to a hospital in Baguio City. –Artemio Dumlao (The Philippine Star)
