30 workers nahilo sa ammonia leak

CARMONA, Cavite – Umabot sa 30 katao, kasama ang isang buntis, ang isinugod sa mga ospital kahapon, matapos makalanghap ng ammonia gas na sumingaw mula sa isang ice plant na matatagpuan sa Golden Mile Industrial Complex sa Barangay Maduya, ng bayang ito.

Ayon kay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (MDRRMO) Rommel de Leon Peneyra, ang mga biktima ay mga manggagawa ng Polytrade Ice Plant at dalawa pang kalapit na kompanya.

Dinala sila sa Pagamutan Bayan ng Carmona at iba pang ospital ng munisipalidad. Nakaramdam ang mga biktima ng hirap sa paghinga at pagkahilo matapos na makalanghap ng mabahong amoy ng gas. Nasa ma-buting kalagayan na sila at pinalabas na ng ospital kahapon, ayon kay Peneyra.

Sinabi ni Carmona Municipal Fire Marshall Senior Inspector Rosalinda Tocmo Sta. Ana na ang gas leak ay ini-report sa kanila bandang 6 a.m. kahapon. Ayon pa kay Sta. Ana, ideneklara nang ligtas ang lugar sa gas leak kahapon ng tanghali. “Meron pa ring amoy pero hindi na ganun kalakas,” sabi ni Sta. Ana. Napag-alaman sa imbestigasyon na ang ammonia leak ay galing sa exhaust system ng ice plant. –Anthony Giron, Tempo
