MANILA, Philippines – A crane operator died after the machine he was operating fell on top of a building being constructed inside a cosmetics factory in Sta. Quiteria, Caloocan City on Tuesday night.

Police identified the victim as Edwin Pasanes, 33, of Algeciras Street, Sampaloc, Manila.

Caloocan City assistant chief of police Superintendent Ferdinand del Rosario said Pasanes was loading steel pipes when the crane fell from the third floor of the Ever Bilena Beauty Co. building around 7:15 p.m.

A construction worker who saw the incident said the combined weight of the steel pipes might have caused the crane to tip over.

Another worker said some of the employees were having dinner outside the construction site when the accident occurred.

Police said an investigation is being conducted to determine liability for the incident.
