Tanod patay sa bumigay na platform sa Manila

Isa ang patay habang sugatan ang iba pa nang bumagsak ang isang improvised platform na ginamit sa dredging at cleanup drive sa Balete Pumping Station malapit sa Romualdez Bridge sa Ermita, Manila kahapon.

Kinilala ang biktima na si Alfredo Quijanom, isang tanod sa naturang barangay at boluntaryong tumutulong noon sa paglilinis ng estero. Sugatan din ang mga volunteers na sina Jenny Soseng, Marilou Silos, Shiela Mati, Jerry Dizon, Ruel de Suloc, Joven Padilla, at Edfel Arevalo, mga barangay workers na tumutulong noon sa mga tauhan ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Department of Public Works and Highways, at Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Halos tatlong oras na nakababad ang mga biktima sa estero habang tinutulungan sila ng mga rescue workers. Sinasabing namatay naman si Quijanom nang mabagsakan ito ng debris ng nahulog na platform. Naitakbo pa ang biktima sa Manila Medical Center kung saan idineklara ito dead on arrival. Ayon kay MMDA Balete Pumping Station plant engineer Angeles Bosmente, naiwasan sana ang sakuna kung sinunod ng mga ito ang utos na huwag sumampa sa platform ng sabay-sabay. Sinabi ni Bosmente na tatlo katao lamang ang kaya ng platform, dahilan para bumigay ito ng sabay-sabay na inakyat ng mga biktima. (Betheena Kae Unite)
