The Philippine Embassy in Lisbon reminded the public on Thursday to be “extra cautious” with jobs offers by bogus companies and individuals as well as issuances of entry or working visas for companies in Portugal or other countries in Europe over the internet.

The Embassy noted that there are continuing cases from Filipinos that were victimized by these scams. Some also have received emails from alleged Portuguese companies or work firms offering jobs, promising to process visa permits for employment for an exchange of money, which the victim would send by money transfer.

“These individuals require payment of fees for Entry Clearance Certificates, International Overseas Employment Certificates (IOEC) and Affidavits of Guarantee Fund, all of which are not required by Portuguese authorities. In other cases, the victim is asked to transact with a designated travel agency who will process the necessary visas and paperwork required for the job contract,” the embassy said in a statement.

To avoid being a victim by these scams, the Embassy advised to exercise diligence and caution when it comes to dealing with unverified people or companies.

The Philippine Embassy in Lisbon has been coordinating with companies and police authorities in Portugal regarding this matter. JE
