MIRI: Five Filipinas were rescued during a police operation held on Friday on human trafficking.

The raid was held on a premises in Centre Point around 6.20pm following a tip-off received.

“Police also arrested a 50-year-old China woman believed to be the girls’ middleman,” City deputy police chief Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit told thesundaypost.

All the rescued women were aged 22, 25, 26, 27 and 32.

“They have been brought to Miri central police station (CPS) to facilitate police investigations,” added Stanley.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were lured by the prospect of better jobs by the middleman. However, when they reached here, they never got the jobs promised.

The case is being investigated under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) 2007.
