Anti-slavery groups call for better support for human trafficking victims

Published by rudy Date posted on March 14, 2017

Support for survivors of human trafficking and modern slavery is not good enough to meet their needs, says a new report from over 23 anti- slavery organisations.

Government-funded support for human trafficking survivors ends abruptly and too early and there is little information or data as to what happens to them in the longer term. Survivors are left with little realistic opportunity to rebuild their lives. Some end up destitute, vulnerable to further harm or even being re- exploited.

The report calls for:

  • an outcome focused support system
clear protocols for housing and supporting victims to aid their recovery
protocols that actively facilitate the ability of victims to move on with their lives.
including these protocols in the statutory guidance for the Modern Slavery Act.
  • including them in the guidance on the Care Act and the Homelessness Code of Conduct.
