Workers seeking overseas employment should be wary of fake job offers circulating online.

In statement issued on Tuesday, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said: “Filipinos who are planning to work abroad should always be more careful of the too-good-to-be-true job offers being posted online. Avoid applying with unlicensed recruitment agencies,.”

Bello is with President Rodrigo Duterte in Saudi Arabia from April 10 to 12 to check on the condition of Filipino workers there and oversee the repatriation of 5,000 illegal migrants, following a 90-day amnesty given by Saudi Arabia.

“Some of the distressed OFWs are victims of illegal recruiters and they were tricked with promises which only caused their exploitation,” Bello said.

He noted that DOLE, together with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), would continue to strengthen its campaign against illegal recruitment.

POEA encourages the public to report any recruitment activity its hotline number 722-11-44 or 722-11-55. /atm
