Six Chinese nationals on Tuesday were arrested after offering P150,000 for marriage to 7 Filipinas so they could take them to China to be farm workers.

According to the Manila Police District (MPD) Intelligence Division, two victims earlier reported they were offered money for marriage and a “good life” in China.

However, once they arrive in China, there is no good life and they end up being farm workers, police said.
MPD Intelligence Division, Raxabago Tondo Police, and District Police Intelligence Operating Unit raided a condominium unit in Quezon City on Tuesday where the two victims were held.

Some Chinese and Philippine passports were found in the unit.

The MPD said the Chinese nationals processed the Filipinos’ documents for four months before they were smuggled to China.

However, one of the suspects, Steven Go, said the victims wanted to go to China and were well-compensated.

Five of the suspects have already married the victims, and an MPD investigation revealed the Filipinas were already smuggled to China.

The trafficking victims are allegedly being abused in China.

The Chinese are facing charges of violating the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003.

The investigation was still ongoing as of posting.
