Authorities have rescued a three-year-old boy from a suspected cybersex operation in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu on Monday afternoon.

The boy’s 24-year-old mother who was allegedly responsible for exploiting the victim was arrested during the entrapment operation.

Senior Supt. Romeo Perigo, chief of the Women and Children’s Protection Center in Central Visayas, said the suspect sent explicit images of her and the victim to clients in exchange for P2,500.

The operation came after a police decoy confirmed the suspect’s online activity.

The boy is now under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

According to the boy’s mom, she resorted to illegal means to make ends meet.

“Wa may laing paagi. Pobre mi,” she said.

(There’s no other way because we’re badly off.)

The mother will face charges for violating Republic Act 9208, or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, and RA 9775, or the Anti-Child Pornography Act of 2009 in relation to RA 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. – report from Edgar Escalante, ABS-CBN News
