Duterte gives up on banning ‘endo’: You can’t stop contractualization because oligarchs don’t want to

Another campaign promise of President Rodrigo Duterte bits the dust.

After nearly two months in office, Duterte admitted that snuffing out ‘endo’ or contractualization was easier said than done.

In a speech Monday, Duterte admitted that it was tough to the oligarchs to hire all workers on a permanent basis either because they “have no money or they just don’t want to or they are just lazy.”

Instead of a total ban on endo, Duterte said he would just work on a compromise.

“I don’t think that I can really give them all kasi hindi naman natin mapilit ‘yung mga kapitalista na — kung walang pera o ayaw nila o tamad. Don’t make it hard for them to run the business the way they like it because that’s their money. So something of a compromise must be — maybe acceptable to everybody,” Duterte said.

He said there were just “too few businesses” to absorb the sheer number of people needing jobs.

“In other countries, be it in Hong Kong, America, you work for a certain guy and if he does not like the quality that you produce, you get out, you get paid, separated and that’s it,” he said.
