MANILA – More than half of households in Metro Manila are watching television on digital, underscoring consumers’ shift away from analog, according to separate polls.

A Social Weather Stations survey in March found that 56 percent of Metro Manila homes own a digital terrestrial television or DTT box. A Pulse Asia study study placed the figure at 51 percent.

Nationwide, 17 percent of households have DTT, according to the SWS while Pulse Asia found 16 percent watching on digital.

Since its launch in 2015, ABS-CBN TVPlus has sold a total of 5 million DTT boxes, allowing consumers to watch crystal clear receptions of select ABS-CBN channels with no monthly fees.

The country’s largest media and entertainment company is ahead of its rivals in supporting the government’s mandate for the full shift to DTT from analog by 2023.

ABS-CBN TVplus covers Metro Manila, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Rizal, Laguna, Pampanga, Tarlac, Benguet, Cavite, Metro Cebu, Cagayan De Oro, Iloilo, Bacolod, and Davao.

CineMo, the first all-day movie channel to air on TVPlus is now the third most-watched channel in Metro Manila, with an average audience share of 7 percent in April, according to Kantar Media.

All-day children’s entertainment channel YeY!, on the other had, had an average audience share of 5 percent.
