Lolos and lolas will get the aguinaldo this time.

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) said the government has set aside P23 billion under the 2019 budget, especially for a social pension program for senior citizens.

Under the scheme, some 3.8 million poor seniors will be given financial aid equivalent to P500 monthly. The proposed allocation is P4 billion higher than the amount expected to be spent this 2018.

The amount is expected to help the seniors buy their daily needs and medicines, which is part of the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010. It is administered by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and is on top of the cash transfers provided under the tax reform law.
