The National Bureau of Investigation has rescued 28 women from a Makati “casa” and arrested five of their supposed traffickers.

An entrapment and rescue operation at a house in Barangay Palanan last Wednesday led to the arrest of Edwin Bayona, Alfredo Valenzona, Richard Cahusay, Agustin Ramirez, and Charlie Quiobe, the bureau announced Monday.

The women, believed to be victims of sexual exploitation, were turned over to the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The NBI launched the operation from information that the women were kept on the second floor of the house and prostituted to clients who would allegedly take them to a hotel or motel after they are “chosen,” the NBI said.

The five men have undergone inquest proceedings for violation of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 as amended by the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012.

Operatives from the bureau’s Anti-Human Trafficking Division carried out last week’s operation in coordination with Makati police, the local DSWD group, and the Department of Justice Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking, the NBI said. — BM, GMA News
