The Asia-Pacific region suffered two daily casualties of $126 million each day.
The statistics were released in a report presented on September 13, at a conference in the framework of the World Economic Forum on ASEAN held in Hanoi.

In 2016, natural disasters cost 0.4% of Gross Domestic Product – GDP of the entire Asia-Pacific region. There are about 11 million 200,000 displaced persons. It is forecasted that by 2030 disaster damage to the Asia-Pacific region will reach 1% of GDP.

Many ASEAN countries are among the countries most severely affected by climate change; Especially the Philippines and Vietnam.

Rapid urbanization is also an impact when building resilience does not catch up with the pace of development.
