Ayala, Yuchengco groups merge their education businesses in P15.5B deal

Conglomerates Ayala Corp. and House of Investments are pushing through with the merger of their education units which have a combined student population of over 40,000.

The proposed union of AC Education and iPeople Inc. is subject to the necessary regulatory approvals. The surviving entity, iPeople, is valued at P15.5 billion (around $286 million).

HI will assume a controlling 51.3 percent stake of the combined entity while the Ayalas will hold of 33.5 percent.

To be merged under one roof are Yuchengco’s Mapua University and its subsidiaries Malayan Colleges in Laguna, Malayan Colleges Mindanao, Malayan Science High School in Manila s well as the Ayala Group’s APEC Schools, University of Nueva Caceres in Bicol, and National Teachers College.
