MANILA, Philippines — A woman was arrested on Friday in Pasig City for allegedly maltreating her 17-year-old male house helper.

Jackeline Modrigo, 29, was served an arrest warrant at her house in Barangay Pinagbuhatan at around 5 p.m., said Chief Superintendent Bernabe Balba, Eastern Police District director.

The arrest warrant was issued by Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 261 Judge Floria Gregory Abalajon for violating Republic Act 7610 or anti-child abuse law.

Balba said Modrigo allegedly physically and mentally abused her helper. The last incident reportedly happened on March 9.

“It was only then that the teenager finally realized that he could no longer stand the abuse and finally filed a complaint against her together with a DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) representative,” he said.

A medical examination of the boy revealed scars indicating physical abuse, Balba said.

Modrigo is detained at the city police station’s lock-up cell. The court set bail at P80,000.
