An estimated 1.4 million Filipino families (6.1 percent) reported that they were victimized by common crimes in the past six months, the latest Social Weather Station (SWS) survey showed.
This is a 0.7 point increase from the 5.3 percent or 1.2 Filipino families who reported the same in the previous quarter ended June 2018.
Survey results released by the pollster on Thursday showed that 6.1 percent of families reported “victimization by any of the common crimes,” including pickpocket, robbery of personal property, break-ins, carnapping, and physical violence.
The September 2018 survey was conducted from September 15-23, 2018 using face-to-face interviews of 1,500 adults (18 years old and above) nationwide.
There were 600 respondents in Balance Luzon, and 300 each in Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao.
It has a sampling margin of error of ±3 percent for national percentages, ±4 percent for Balance Luzon, and ±6 percent each for Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao).
The SWS said it presented respondents with the following question:
(Now, we would also like to know your experiences and the experiences of your family members residing here, regarding crime. In the past six months, have you or any member of your family been a victim of… (pick-pocketing/robbery of personal property; break-in at respondent’s residence; carnapping or no motor vehicle; physical violence)? IF YES: How many times?). /ee
