MANILA, Philippines — About 11.6 million Filipino families or 50 percent consider themselves poor, a recent survey result from Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed.

In the December 2018 survey, SWS said this was two points below the September 2018’s 52 percent or 12.2 million families.

The survey result also showed that 30 percent (7.9 million Filipino families) were “food poor.” This was 2 points down from September 2018’s 36 percent (8.5 million Filipino families).

The survey conducted face-to-face interviews of 1,440 adults aged 18 years and above from December 16 to 19.

The December 2018 survey was conducted from “December 16-19, 2018 using face-to-face interviews of 1,440 adults (18 years old and above) nationwide: 360 each in Balance Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao (sampling error margins of ±2.6% for national percentages, and ±5% each for Balance Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao),” SWS said.
