17 human trafficking victims rescued in Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Authorities rescued 17 victims of human trafficking in Zamboanga City Monday night.

The Philippine Coast Guard, in coordination with law enforcement agencies, intercepted their motorboat en route to Taganak, Tawi-Tawi.

Zamboanga Coast Guard Station commander, Lt. Cmdr. Jimmy Oliver Vingno, said the victims were among the 93 passengers of the vessel.

The victims will be turned over to the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Vingno said the owner of the launch will be investigated for possible criminal violations.
