MANILA, Philippines — Two chefs who were duped into working at a restaurant in Lagos, Nigeria arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 last night.

According to representatives of the Filipino community in Lagos, Abraham Duque and Angelo Aling were offered high salaries to work for Bonzai restaurant.

Duque and Aling, who left jobs in Cyprus and the Bahamas, respectively, accepted the offer despite having no employment contract and no working permit.

The two chefs were not given their salaries and endured months of abuse and starvation by their employer, who withheld their passports, before they were rescued by officials of the Filipino community and brought to the Philippine embassy in Abuja on April 15.
