MANILA, Philippines — Domestic workers in Western Visayas will get a salary increase starting May 8, the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) announced yesterday.

The NWPC said the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board issued Wage Order 3 granting an increase of P500 monthly for domestic helpers in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras and Iloilo.

With the increase, the NWPC said the minimum wage of domestic helpers in cities and first class municipalities in Western Visayas would be pegged at P4,000.

The minimum wage of domestic helpers in other areas in the region will increase to P3,500.

The previous wage order, which set the salaries of domestic workers in the cities in Western Visayas to P3,500 per month and P3,000 in other areas lapsed last Dec. 8.
