INVESTIGATORS are looking into faulty electrical wiring as the cause of the fire that hit a roll-on/roll-off (RORO) passenger-cargo ship, which left an apprentice injured in Mandaue City, Cebu on Wednesday.

Lt. Junior Grade Michael John Encina, spokesman of the Philippine Coast Guard in Central Visayas (PCG-7), said that Gleen Ligit sustained minor head injuries.

Initial investigation revealed that the MV Trans Asia was gutted by fire while it was docked at the F.F. Cruz wharf in Pier 8 at about 3:48 a.m.

PCG-7 said the vessel was under repair and the fire came from the galley air blower.

At least 36 passengers were rescued and were left unharmed while Ligit was brought to the University of Cebu Medical Center.

The Bureau of Fire Prorection in Central Visayas (PCG-7) placed the fire under control at 6:01 a.m. and was put out at 7:18 a.m.
