MANILA, Philippines — An official of a transport group was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants along North EDSA in Quezon City on Tuesday.

Rowel Malagueno, 45, vice president of the Muñoz-Monumento chapter of the Jeepney Operations Association Inc., a commuter group under the Stop and Go Coalition, died at the scene from gunshots to the head and neck.

Lt. Col. Rodrigo Soriano, commander of the Masambong police station, said their investigation showed that Malagueno was stuck in traffic in Barangay Pagasa when the suspects approached him.

Witnesses said the suspects pulled out their handguns and shot Malagueno several times before escaping toward Mindanao Avenue.

Probers said they retrieved two bullet casings and a deformed bullet at the scene.

According to Soriano, the victim had been receiving death threats since he was elected official of the transport group.
