Worker dies when boulder rolled down on him in Albay quarry site

LEGAZPI CITY –– A 71-year-old worker died on Thursday morning when a boulder rolled down on him at a quarry site at the foot of Mayon volcano in Sto. Domingo town in Albay province, police said.
Capt. Genevieve Oserin, Sto. Domingo police chief, said in a phone interview that Melchor Balderama, a resident of Sitio (sub-village) San Antonio in Barangay Fidel Surtida, was gathering aggregates around 7 a.m. at the quarry site when a boulder rolled down from the eight- feet high slopes.
The dislodged boulder hit the victim, knocking him unconscious, Oserin said.
Police responded to the incident and were able to get the victim from under the boulder.
The victim died while being taken to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital due to contusions in his neck and head.
