9 nabbed for cybercrime

NINE individuals engaged in cybercrime were arrested in Upper Tadiangan, Tuba, Benguet on September 3.

Joint elements from National Bureau of Investigation in Cordillera, Tuba Municipal Police Station, Provincial Intelligence Branch, Benguet Provincial Police Office and Regional Intelligence Unit-14 served a search warrant and were able to arrest nine individuals whose identity were withheld for violation of Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime law.

Seized items include 15 units of computer monitors, 17 keyboards, 18 assorted IDs, 15 CPUs, 15 computer mouse and AVR with power cords, printer, two unit’s router with one telephone unit, one laptop with charger, heavy duty router with cord, BIR permit, DTI registration and business permit plate of Tuba used in conducting illegal activities.

Authorities said violation of RA 10175 in relation to RA 7610 (Special protection against child abuse), RA 9231(republic act of child labor), RA 6715 (labor code of the Philippines) and RA 3815 (revised penal code) has been committed by the owners, operators and employees of the establishment.

The nine individuals and confiscated items on Tuesday were brought to NBI-Cordillera office for filing appropriate charges and case build up.

Tuba MPS chief PMAJ James Acod said the nine persons majority were women of legal age and were recruited for information technology (IT) work.
