MANILA, Philippines — Over 70 women suspected victims of sexual trafficking were rescued in a bar raid in Cubao, Quezon City yesterday before dawn.
The women were rescued during the raid at the Lanai Disco Club along Aurora Blvd. at around 12:30 a.m.
Probers said the operation stemmed from information that the club employed women, even minors, to perform nude shows.
An operative was able to confirm this and personnel from the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of the Quezon City police swooped in.
A total of 72 women were rescued while eight persons were arrested and could face charges for violation of RA 10364 or the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012.
The rescued women were turned over to the Social Services Department for proper intervention.
Two spas offering “extra service” have been closed down by the Quezon City police since October. A total of 10 women were rescued during these operations.
