The state planning agency National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) will come out with a quality of life index (QLI) early next year to measure inroads made en route to achieving the goals under AmBisyon Natin 2040.

Neda Undersecretary Rosemarie G. Edillon told the Inquirer last week the QLI was supposed to be launched this year, but did not push through due to delayed approval of the P3.7-trillion 2019 national budget.

Edillon said the QLI, as anchored on AmBisyon Natin 2040, would count the number of Filipinos enjoying the vision’s three pillars, namely: Matatag (strong), Maginhawa (comfortable), and Panatag na Buhay (stable life). AmBisyon Natin 2040 envisions tripling Filipinos’ per capita income to $11,000 by sustaining at least a 6.5-percent annual gross domestic product (GDP) growth alongside the implementation of policies that would make the Philippines a high-income country 21 years from now.

The President had said, “by 2040, the Philippines shall be a prosperous, predominantly middle-class society where no one is poor.” –
