400 private schools posibleng magsara dahil sa baba ng bilang ng enrollees

MAYNILA – Napipinto ang pagsara ng aabot sa 400 pribadong eskuwelahan dahil sa bumabang bilang ng enrollees at kakulangan ng pondo sa gitna ng coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, ayon sa isang grupo ng private schools.

Ayon kay Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations Managing Director Joseph Noel Estrada, bumaba nang halos 50 porsiyento ang enrollment sa mga pribadong eskuwelahan ngayong taon.

Dahilan ito aniya na ipanawagan nila ang ayuda para sa mga private school personnel.

Sa matrikula ng mga estudyante kasi sila aniya kumukuha ng pondo ang mga eskuwelahan.

“Private schools are generally tuition-funded. I am appealing to the government for wage subsidy for them and this will really help the institutions in getting back and rehabilitate and continue their operations,” ani Estrada.

Nanawagan din si Estrada ng tuition subsidy para sa mga pamilyang may mga estudyanteng nag-aaral sa mga private school.

Panawagan pa nila na huwag masyadong higpitan ang mga regulasyon para agaran na ring makapagbukas ang mga paaralan ngayong distance learning ang bagong sistema ng pagtuturo.

Samantala, nananawagan din ng distance learning o “internet” allowance ang grupong Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC), sa Department of Education (DepEd) na hindi bababa sa P1,500 kada buwan.

Hindi na raw kasi sapat ang P350 kada buwan na cash o “chalk” allowance dahil sa inaasahan nilang mga dagdag na gastusin sa ilalim ng bagong sistema ng pagtuturo.

Hindi rin daw lahat ng guro ay may sariling laptop.

Bagaman may alok ang Government Service Insurance System na P20,000 pautang para sa laptop, ayon sa mga guro, mas maiging libre itong ibibigay sa kanila dahil baon na rin daw ang marami sa kanila sa utang.

Naniniwala ang mga guro na may kakayahan ang DepEd na tustusan ang kanilang mga pangangailangan.

“Before the opening of classes eh sana po makapag-provide ang gobyerno specifically itong Department of Education nang libreng laptop at computer,” ani TDC Chairperson Benjo Basas.

“Hindi rin dapat pinapautang ang laptop sa mga teachers.”

Pinag-aaralan na rin ng DepEd kung san kukuhanin ang communication allowance ng mga guro, ayon kay Education Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malalauan.
