MANILA, Philippines — An official of the Makati Medical Center succumbed to COVID-19 after reportedly getting his first dose of an unnamed vaccine, an official of fhe MMC announced yesterday.
Dr. Jose Maria Avila, chief pathologist of the MMC, died of COVID-19 complications. He was 62.
MMC director Dr. Saturnino Javier denied reports that Avila died after completing his two doses of Sinovac vaccine.
Javier lauded Avila for leading the efforts for the accreditation of the hospital’s COVID RT-PCR testing.
Based on his profile at the MMC website, Avila was a former resident at the Philippine General Hospital and a fellow at The Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
