Government welcomes ILO probe on killings

MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang has assured the International Labor Organization (ILO) that the government will cooperate in the probe into the killing of 92 labor union leaders.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Anthony Golez said the government has nothing to hide and is in fact conducting its own investigation into the cases.

“Even if we have our own justice system and we have our own investigators handling those cases, this government is cognizant of its international responsibilities regarding different issues, so the government would be cooperative on this,” he said.

The ILO representatives will reportedly be in town from Sept. 22 to 29 to meet with the families of the victims. – Marvin Sy, Philippine Star
