Satisfaction rating of GMA falls

More than six in 10 Filipinos were dissatisfied with the performance of President Gloria Arroyo, results of the latest survey by Social Weather Stations (SWS) said.

The survey results showed that 23 percent were satisfied and 62 percent were dissatisfied with President Arroyo’s performance, for a net rating of negative 38.

Mrs. Arroyo’s previous net satisfaction rating was negative 31.

SWS, which released the results on Thursday, reported, “The President’s overall satisfaction rating fell due to worsening dissatisfaction in the rest of Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, and continued high dissatisfaction in Metro Manila.”

In its third quarter of 2009 survey, the survey group found that the net satisfaction rating of the President went down by 13 points in the balance of Luzon, where she got negative 45.

The balance of Luzon refers to all the regions in the main island, except Metro Manila.

Mrs. Arroyo’s rating also went down by six points in Mindanao, at negative 27, and by four points in the Visayas, at negative 32.

Her rating remained low in Metro Manila at negative 46.

SWS said that satisfaction with the President in the urban areas went slightly up to 21 percent in September from 23 percent in June. But dissatisfaction went even higher to 65 percent from 61 percent. Her urban net satisfaction rating is now negative 44.

Satisfaction with Mrs. Arroyo’s performance in the rural communities went down to 25 percent from 28 percent while dissatisfaction slipped to 59 percent from 52 percent, bringing her rural net satisfaction rating to negative 34.

By economic class

Similarly, dissatisfaction with her performance intensified in all classes.

SWS reported that the President’s net satisfaction rating declined by 26 points in classes ABC, at negative 54; by five points in class D, at negative 39; and by 12 points in class E, at negative 34.

Mrs. Arroyo’s net satisfaction was slightly higher among women at negative 37 compared to her rating among men, at negative 39.

SWS’s latest survey on the President’s satisfaction rating was conducted from September 18 to 21, using face-to-face interviews with 1,800 adults divided into random samples of 300 each in Metro Manila and Mindanao, and 600 each in Balance of Luzon and the Visayas.

Margins of error are plus or minus 2.3 percent for national percentages, plus or minus 6 percent for Metro Manila and Mindanao, and plus or minus 4 percent for the balance Luzon and the Visayas.
