The spouse of a high-ranking Israel official has reportedly been questioned by Israel’s Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor over an alleged illegal employment of a Filipina cleaner, an online news provider reported.

According to Haaretz.com, Israel Defense Minister Ehud Barak’s wife Nili Priel reportedly admitted to investigators that she employed the Filipina worker. She, however, denied knowing that the worker failed to possess the necessary work permit.

Reports said that Israel Radio broke the news about the illegal employment of the Filipina worker at the Barak family household.

Haaretz.com added in its report that the worker came to Israel to work as a home health care aide.

She reportedly worked for the Barak family when her work permit expired. For 8 months, the Filipina reportedlty cooked and cleaned their house.

Under Israeli law, employing an illegal worker is a criminal offense. Violators could face administrative fine of up to NIS 5,000. The fine could go up to as high as NIS 50,000 if a formal charge is filed against the employer. –abs-cbnNEWS.com
