Pinoys passing through New Zealand now exempt from transit visas

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino nationals transiting through New Zealand en route to other destinations are now exempted from securing transit visas, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

The DFA said the Embassy of New Zealand in Santiago informed the Philippine Embassy in Chile about the visa exemption for Filipinos transiting New Zealand.

Originally, Filipinos transiting New Zealand to change planes needed to hold a transit visa. This requirement, however, was waived starting last Nov. 30.

The waiving of the requirement is with the condition that the Filipinos in transit should remain in the airport and their travel bookings must show a stopover of no more than 24 hours. If they plan to leave the airport or to stop over for more than 24 hours, they must apply for a visitor’s visa, the embassy said.  – Pia Lee-Brago, Philippine Star
