Nine long weekends this year

WORKERS will have nine long weekends this year under Proclamation 1841, which lists all the regular and special holidays for 2010.

The regular holidays are New Year’s Day on Jan. 1; Maundy Thursday on April 1; Good Friday on April 2; Araw ng Kagitingan on April 9; Labor Day on May 1; Independence Day on June 14 (Monday nearest June 12); National Heroes Day on Aug. 30 (last Monday of August); Bonifacio Day on Nov. 29 (Monday nearest Nov. 30); Christmas Day on Dec. 25; and Rizal Day on Dec. 27 (Monday nearest Dec. 30).

The special holidays are Ninoy Aquino Day on Aug. 23 (Monday nearest Aug. 21), All Saints’ Day on Nov. 1 and Dec. 24 and 31.

The proclamation also declared Feb. 22, the anniversary of the Edsa Revolution, a special holiday for all schools. –Joyce Pangco Pañares, Manila Standard Today
