RP construction industry going green

MANILA, Philippines—Going green is not a luxury but a necessity, a member of the Philippine construction industry said during a construction expo here.

“Going green doesn’t need to be expensive,” said Edward Diamonon, consultant of the Worldbex Services International during the 14th Philippine World Building and Construction Exposition (WORLDBEX), which opened on Wednesday.

Diamonon said that the cost of going green depends on the design.

He cited that architects are increasingly opting for a window with good ventilation than placing air conditioners in homes.

“Green architecture means using designs that are environment friendly. One example of going green is our participation in the rehabilitation of the Pasig river,” added Diamonon. “We’re here to help the industry, to bring innovation. We aim for the advancement of the construction industry.”

Diamonon said these innovations are going to be channeled to the end-users through seminars that highlight green architecture and sustainable design.

“We have high hopes that the Philippines will stand up. We can do it. The industry is still growing as contractors continue in building new projects,” said Diamonon.
